Zimbabwe – Blessing of the Foundation Stone for the School at Hwange by Fr. Angel

23 April 2022

(ANS – Hwange) – The second day of the Rector Major’s visit at Hwange, began with a moment of spiritual vigor, with the Salesians and Cooperators joined together in morning prayer.  The solemn eucharistic celebration at the Youth Centre by the Rector major together with the Salesians, ushered in great fervor and positive energy in the hearts of the young people and the Salesian Cooperators.

The meeting with the Educative Pastoral Community (EPC) with its stakeholders followed the mass. Hwange EPC is composed of a very good representation from all sectors and among its stakeholders are representatives from the Ministry of Education of Zimbabwe, Law Enforcement, an Engineer, a Financial expert and a defense force personnel. Under the leadership of Fr. Simbarashe Muza, the Rector of the community and assisted by Fr. Bruno Zamberlan, the project administrator, the EPC has deliberately committed to strengthen the Salesian Charismatic identity through the different development projects. During the meeting with the Rector Major, the educative and pastoral vision of the Salesian presence of Hwange was presented, together with the plans for the future development of Salesian presence in Hwange.

In the afternoon, the Rector Major blessed the foundation stone on which the future Technical Secondary School would be built. All the students of the Don Bosco Secondary school were present for the blessing and greeted the Rector Major with great joy. He then proceeded to bless the workshop sponsored by Manos Unidas, Spain. The workshop is named after Rev. Bishop Ignatius Prieto (SMI), Bishop of Hwange, who had invited the Salesians to Hwange Diocese 37 years ago.

In the evening the Rector Major visited the bishop of Hwange, Most Rev. Raphael Macebo Mabuza Ncube and shared with him various concerns regarding the Salesian presence and the mission in Hwange. The fraternal presence with the young people of SYM in the  evening  made the second day of the Rector Major’s visit on the Zimbabwean soil memorable.
