Born on September 10, 1971, in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, Fr. Romero began his Salesian journey at the novitiate in La Plata, where he made his first profession on January 31, 1991. He continued his formation and made his perpetual profession on October 5, 1996, committing himself fully to the Salesian mission. He was ordained a priest on December 11, 1999, in Córdoba, marking the beginning of his pastoral ministry.
Fr. Romero has pursued academic excellence throughout his Salesian vocation. In 1993, he earned a degree as a Professor of Philosophy and Education, specializing in Youth Ministry, from IFD Domingo Savio in Córdoba. He further deepened his theological knowledge by obtaining a Baccalaureate in Theology from the Catholic University of Argentina (UCA) in Córdoba in 1999. In 2016, he completed a Master’s degree in Bioethics at the National University of Córdoba (UNC), broadening his understanding of ethical issues in contemporary society.
His extensive pastoral and administrative experience within the Salesian Congregation includes a variety of key leadership roles. From 2002 to 2007, he served as Rector of the Domingo Savio Aspirantate and Prenovitiate (ACO), guiding young aspirants in their vocational discernment. He was later appointed Provincial Councillor for the Province of Northern Argentina (ACO) from 2007 to 2009, followed by his role as Delegate for Formation in 2009. Between 2008 and 2015, he served as Rector of the Post-novitiate (ACO – ARN), overseeing the formation of young Salesians. Additionally, he was Provincial Councillor (ARN) from 2010 to 2015 and Delegate for Formation (ARN) during the same period. Recognizing his leadership and commitment, he was appointed Provincial of Northern Argentina (ARN) from 2016 to 2020.
Beyond his provincial responsibilities, Fr. Romero has actively engaged in the global Salesian mission. He participated in the 27th General Chapter, contributing to discussions and decisions shaping the future of the Congregation.
A fluent Spanish speaker, Fr. Romero’s re-election as Regional Councillor for America South Cone reaffirms his dedication to the Salesian charism and his ability to guide the region in the coming years. Before this renewed mandate, he served as Provincial of Northern Argentina (ARN), where he played a pivotal role in the formation and animation of Salesian communities. With his extensive experience and steadfast commitment, he now continues his mission of service, supporting the Salesian mission across the America South Cone region.
