Italy – With the ‘Ghana Project 2’ young people arriving in Italy to be hired by companies in the North East

(ANS - Pordenone) - A new milestone has been reached for the participants of the ‘Ghana Project 2’: A group of 15 forklift truck operators arrived in Pordenone a few days ago, ready to complete the training course started in Ghana. After successfully undergoing advanced technical and language training in the Salesian schools and Vocational Training Centres in Accra and Sunyani, these young professionals, who grew up within the Don Bosco network, are now ready to strengthen their skills directly in the field and build a professional future in the logistics sector.

The President of Confindustria Alto Adriatico, Michelangelo Agrusti, welcomed the young people, emphasising the effectiveness of a course that combines training, employment and integration. The companies involved include Marine Interiors SpA of Pordenone and ALF SpA of Gaiarine.

A decisive role in the project is also played by the Salesian Volontariato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo (VIS) NGO, which not only takes care of the language training certified by the University for Foreigners of Siena, but has also made available psychological support services, cultural mediation and civic education: fundamental activities to accompany the young Ghanaians during their professional and personal growth, and to foster a positive and lasting social integration in the local Italian communities.

The project, which is the result of the collaboration between Confindustria Alto Adriatico, Umana SpA, VIS Ghana and Salesians di Don Bosco, envisages an integrated procedure: technical training in Ghana, a further training module in Italy and employment through Umana, with all the salary and regulatory guarantees.

Launched in Accra in April 2024 in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella, ‘Ghana Project 2’ represents a concrete example of how international cooperation and technical education can open up real opportunities for growth, offering answers to the shortage of skilled labour in Italy and professional prospects for young Ghanaians.
