Asia-Oceania – Past Pupils Asia-Oceania Region Holds Online Meeting to Strengthen Mission With Young People

04 December 2025

(ANS) – The Asia–Oceania Region of the World Confederation of Past Pupils of Don Bosco held an online meeting on 30 November 2025, bringing together members from nine countries: Hong Kong, Japan, Timor Leste, Vietnam, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, and Mongolia. The meeting began at 10:15 (Rome time) with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. Joseph Manipadam.

Focusing on Synodality and Mission

Regional Councillor Mr. Ketan Gala opened with a presentation on the EGWA Resolutions, highlighting the importance of deep listening, reflection, and collaboration as a synodal journey. He stressed that these practices will strengthen the Association’s mission and allow Past Pupils to better accompany young people.

Each National Federation then shared:
(A) an overview of its structure,
(B) challenges faced, and
(C) its three-year vision plan—offering a clear view of the diverse realities across the region.

Preparations for the 2026 Asia–Oceania Regional Congress

A key discussion point was the Asia–Oceania Regional Congress 2026. Mr. Gala invited all National Federations to consult internally and submit proposals by 30 January 2026 for:

–       the Congress venue

–       participant cost estimates (including accommodation, meals, program expenses, and a sightseeing day).

Around 100+ participants are expected at the event.

At 11:45 (Rome time), the meeting was joined by World President Mr. Bryan Magro.

Pilgrims of Hope – Animation by Bro. Dominic Nam

World Delegate Bro. Dominic Nam encouraged each Federation to organise activities that foster a sense of belonging among young people. He shared the positive sign of increased participation in the Salesian Family Day—rising from 4 Past Pupils in past years to 21 confirmed participants for the upcoming event.

Reflecting on the theme, “Pilgrims of Hope”, Bro. Dominic reminded Past Pupils of their mission to rekindle hope in the poor and accompany the young through witness and service. He highlighted three essential values to pass on to the youth:

–        Joy

–        Patience

–        Commitment

These values, he emphasized, can change the lives of young people in powerful ways.

Message from the World President

In his address, Mr. Bryan Magro encouraged members with the assurance that believing in God’s work helps the mission flourish. He focused on five key priorities:

–       Do not be afraid to change – Leadership must be synodal and adaptive.

–       Get organised – Proper registration, adherence to the Statutes, and strong structures are essential.

–       Strengthen communication – The World Presidency seeks more active updates and dialogue from National Federations.

–       Prioritise GEX – Involving and supporting young Past Pupils remains a central mission.

–       Live the mission – Salesian charism thrives when we work directly with young people.

Regional Secretariat and Carlo Gastini Foundation

Mr. Magro also briefed participants on the plans for establishing the Regional Secretariat and updated them on the development of the Carlo Gastini Foundation, which aims to support the Association’s long-term mission.

Closing

The meeting concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Regional Councillor Mr. Ketan Gala, expressing gratitude to all participants for their contributions and commitment to strengthening the Salesian mission across the Asia–Oceania Region.
