The sum raised comes from donations made through the Salesian Missionary Office's online platform, as well as from offerings and fundraisers carried out in parishes entrusted to the Salesians of Don Bosco, in a joint effort that mobilised educational and parish communities throughout the country.
The Diocesan Caritas in Leiria-Fátima, which accompanies the families most affected by the bad weather on the ground, will now use the donations to restore essential goods, purchase basic materials for damaged homes and provide food support to the most vulnerable families, ensuring localised and appropriate assistance for each individual case.
The campaign was launched on 31 January, the Feast of Don Bosco, following the damage caused by Storm Kristin in the days immediately preceding it across several areas of the country, which also caused several casualties, significantly affecting the Diocese and the International Shrine of Fatima and leaving some families in a particularly vulnerable situation. The campaign was the Salesian response of solidarity, which sought to channel the necessary aid to those most in need in a rapid and transparent manner.
With the sending of the collected sum, this initiative is formally concluded. However, should new donations for this cause be received by Salesian works, they will be forwarded to the Diocesan Caritas in Leiria-Fátima, ensuring that they are used to support the affected populations.
The Salesian Missão Dom Bosco Mission Office thanks all the benefactors and communities who made it possible to channel this concrete aid to those most in need.
