RMG – Trip of the Rector Major in East-Asia

(ANS – Roma) – On February 27th, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major, will leave to Cambodia, the first leg of a trip to East Asia which will take him to encounter the Salesian Family of three Provinces: Thailand, Philippines North and Philippines South.

The Rector Major will arrive in the Vice-Province of Cambodia on Sunday 28th. In the country, which belongs to the Province of Thailand, the Rector Major will open the celebrations of the 25 years of Salesian presence.

Fr. Á.F. Artime will remain in the territory of the province of Thailand till Friday, March 4th. From the following day he will be in the province of Philippines North, with provincial house located in Manila. Besides getting acquainted with the local Salesian reality, on March 7th-8th, the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco will participate, with the three Councillors for the Salesian Mission (Youth Ministry, Missions and Social Communication) and with the Regional Councillor, in the meeting with the Provincials of East Asia - Oceania region.

Finally, from March 9th to 11th, the Rector Major will get acquainted with the Salesian reality in the Philippines South Province.

“What is the significance of this first visit of the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco in the East Asia part of our region? – asks Fr. Václav Klement, regional Councillor for East Asia - Oceania –. First of all, besides the joy and festive atmosphere, we look forward to this encounter with Fr. Ángel as sons who are meeting their father, to share in simplicity the reality of our life and to listen to his words. Then, this is a good opportunity for us to deepen our feeling of belonging to the Salesian community worldwide; and last, but not least, this is a good occasion to share with the Rector Major our dreams and the challenges of our mission”.
