Oliva Gessi, Italy - 23 February 2020 – On Sunday 23 February, most of the GC28 participants of East Asia-Oceania visited Oliva Gessi, the birthplace of St Luigi Versiglia, for the first time. The event took place near the 90th anniversary of the death of the Salesian missionaries, saints and proto-martyrs, Luigi Versiglia and Callisto Caravario, celebrated today, 25 February. The delegation, accompanied by the Economer General, Salesian Bro Jean Paul Muller, and the Councilor for the East Asia-Oceania Region, Fr Václav Klement, was received by the parish priest of the church of San Martino and by the civil authorities. They then went on to the house of St Versiglia, with its three rooms set up as a museum containing photographs and historical documents. After the Eucharistic celebration, there was a moment of sharing between Oliva Gessi citizens and Salesians, followed by dinner.
