Italy – Campus AgriCultura Lombriasco: Agriculture 4.0 that schools

22 December 2021

(ANS - Lombriasco) - New production techniques, environmental sustainability and innovation in agriculture are the basic ingredients of the new training incubator dedicated to students of the Salesian Agricultural School in Italy and around the world.

The project of the Salesian Agricultural School of Lombriasco and of "Net4Grow" was born with the new school year 2021/22, thanks to the collaboration between teachers of the Institute, breeders, producers, researchers and technicians of the agricultural sector, who have decided to together define a method for the protection of crops, animals and the environment.

"Net4Grow" for the Salesian Agricultural School of Lombriasco in Italy and the network of Salesian Agricultural Schools in the world intends to act as a technical-scientific training incubator and in field test for projects dedicated to the world of agriculture, sustainable development, and Green and Circular Economy.

The Campus AgriCultura Lombriasco is located at the Salesian Agricultural School of Lombriasco and boasts a series of structures destined to experimental areas for the didactic part (agriculture and breeding), a research laboratory, about 12 hectares for production, classrooms for on-site and distance training, meeting rooms, Auditorium for Congresses and Seminars, as well as a guesthouse to host students and visitors.

“The objective,” comments the Director of Innovative Agricultural Projects of Net4Grow Daniel Orminus, “is that every Salesian Agricultural School in the world can apply the complete Format following the Concept and the experience lived and tested in Lombriasco, an incubator of projects.”

In this way, schools will be able to share various training aspects with Lombriasco's technicians and certifying staff, to follow methodologies and disciplines that have already been successfully tested, carry out research and development on local crops and farms, investigate what happens in their subsoil and face the ever-changing environmental issues.

The Campus AgriCultura Lombriasco project aims to respond to the need to improve the efficiency, effectiveness of production processes, as well as the competitiveness on markets (including foreign) of seven excellent agri-food supply chains of the Piedmont Region - agriculture (corn, cereals and hops ) and farms (bovines, poultry, bees, snails) - through prototypes of highly innovative systems in which both quality improvement and its genetic and environmental recognition in relation to origin converge - and enhancing biodiversity and requalification of the rural heritage of each geographical area.

The effectiveness of the innovations will be guaranteed through the development of an AgriCultura Lombriasco Campus Brand, whose products will present innovative characteristics compared to the current market, and by the adoption of technological platforms that respond to the quality of the project and products, mainly from a perspective of integrated supply chain development.

The "Agriculture for Life" project was born from Net4Grow - Salesian Agricultural School Lombriasco (Italy) with the aim of proposing to the Salesian Agricultural Schools of the world network, a fundamental type of agriculture to give everyone the opportunity to generate new activities in agricultural sector aimed at production sustainability, the environment and at filling the primary need to produce healthy food for man's subsistence.

Agriculture 4.0 must aim at a reading of data present in the subsoil to improve production, prevent changes in the ecosystem, and lead to a social advancement of the farmer through technical and scientific knowledge.
