Five Salesian Saints to Inspire Holiness

Just over a month since the Canonization of Artemide Zatti, we delve into five figures who inspire one to take the path to Holiness.

St. John Bosco
Don Bosco dedicated his entire life to the apostolate among young people. He was devoted to St. Francis de Sales and Mary Help of Christians. His life story was also marked by various revelatory and prophetic dreams and teaches us that Holiness consists in being open to God's plans.

St. Domenico Savio
Domenico Savio, born in 1842, was a pupil of St. John Bosco. His life teaches us two things: that constancy in prayer produces heroic virtues and that it is possible to be holy without ceasing to be young.

St. Luigi Versiglia
St. Luigi Versiglia abandoned his plans to become a Salesian and leave as a missionary. He was killed by a group of bandits. His life teaches us that holiness consists in giving up one's own plans to embrace God's, even at the cost of one's life.

Saint Mother Mazzarello
Together with Don Bosco she gave birth to the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. She dedicated her whole life to service and was called "mother" by all, given her strong maternal expression in mission. Thus, St. Mother Mazzarello teaches us to accept the call made by God.

Blessed Zepherin Namuncurá
He chose Dominic Savio as an example of life and promised the Lord that he would become a Salesian priest to serve his people. He died before he succeeded, but he teaches us that it is important to have a holy example of life and always follow God's call.
