A Journey of Faith and Beauty
Thanks to collaboration with other Salesian NGOs like TGS Nazionale and Romei 25 APS, (National Social Youth Tourism and Roma Gerini Social upliftment) this was not just a trip—it was a beautiful journey of faith and welcome lived in the very heart of Rome.
Youth groups from San Gregorio of Catania, Camporeale, Casale Monferrato, Bari, and Turin began their pilgrimage by visiting the Basilica of St. John Lateran, followed by crossing the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica. Each pilgrimage was introduced with a sharing session at the Salesian National Center, attended by Fr. Francesco Preite, President of Salesiani per il Sociale APS, and supported by passionate volunteers from TGS Nazionale and expert guides from Romei 25 APS.
At every step, spiritual formation was closely woven with the discovery of art, history, and wonder.
First-Time Experiences That Leave a Mark
"I never thought I’d come to Rome at my age… the flight, the Holy Door… it was amazing," shared Giovanni, aged 16, from San Gregorio at Catania. For many of the youth, it was a series of firsts: their first time in the capital, first airplane flight, and first experience of beauty as a moment of rebirth.
Federico, aged 14, from Casale Monferrato, expressed after being interviewed on Vatican Radio: “This experience will stay in my heart.”
These pilgrimages are a visible sign of the Salesian commitment to accompany the most vulnerable youth in meaningful paths of growth.
Recognition and Gratitude
"A special thanks to National Social Youth Tourism Association and the guides from Romei 25 APS for the passion and professionalism with which they made every stop unique," stated the organizers from Salesiani per il Sociale. "And thanks to our educators, who every day make the impossible possible: planting seeds of hope in the youngest hearts."
Voices on the Airwaves
The initiative's media partner, Vatican Radio, followed the pilgrimages closely and welcomed the youth live on the program "Radio Vaticana con voi"(Vatican Radio with You). It was a precious opportunity to share fresh emotions and reflections, allowing a wider audience to witness the joy and gratitude for an experience that left a lasting impression.
