(ANS - Turin) - The Salesian Accompaniment School began on the evening of Monday 16 August in Valdocco, Turin, with a total of 16 Salesian participants, coming from 13 different Provinces. Originally, it was designed for a total of 21 participants, but the current regulations to combat the pandemic prevented some from being able to take part.

The School is coordinated by Raymond Callo, SDB, member of the Department for Formation and is held in two languages: Italian and Spanish.

The School is the implementation of one of the lines of action adopted in the 2019 document "Young Salesians and Accompaniment: Orientations & Guidelines". The latter was the result of international research on spiritual accompaniment in initial formation processes, carried out in 2017 by the Departments for Formation and Youth Ministry.

During the school month, participants will be helped to pay attention to the work of the Spirit in their own lives, following Pope Francis' recommendation that "the spiritual guides themselves be guided and that they accompany the brothers on the basis of their own experience of accompaniment". In fact, in the context of various General Chapters, it was recommended that Salesians be prepared for the service of spiritual accompaniment, which is the heart of Don Bosco's formation and of his pastoral practice.

The first part of this experience foresees four days in Turin, visiting the key places of Don Bosco's formation. In a second moment, the School then moves to Colle Don Bosco, with an eight-day guided retreat, guided visits, moments of study and training in some skills of spiritual direction.

The animating team involves Salesians from various Provinces, an FMA, a Missionary from Africa and several lay people.
