Brazil - Salesian Cooperators elect new World Councilor for Brazil Region

Campo Grande, Brazil - July 2022 - During the Fifth Regional Congress of Salesian Cooperators, held in Campo Grande, Darlene dos Reis Gonçalves Souza was chosen as the new World Councilor for the Brazil Region. The proceedings began on July 22 with a presentation by the FMA SSCC World Delegate, Sister Carmen Lucrecia Uribe, entitled "Synodality for the Church." The following day, Prof. Brasdorico Merquiades dos Santos presented the lecture "St. Francis de Sales and Don Bosco United by Love." After the official opening of the Congress, the SSCC World Coordinator, Antonio Boccia, presented the theme "Synodality for the Laity". In the afternoon, there was a talk by Fr. Ademir de Oliveira entitled "Strengthening the Salesian's Charismatic Identity in the Post-Synodal Journey." On July 24, the SDB World Delegate of the SSCC, Salesian Coadjutor Bro. Duc Nam Nguyen presented the theme "Synodality for Salesians." Then the Rector Major's Central Delegate for the Secretariat for the Salesian Family, Fr. Joan Lluis Playá, left a message on behalf of Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians: "Accompanying the steps of the Salesian Family is a valuable mission given by the Rector Major. This is a great ecclesiastical movement. The seed that the Holy Spirit planted in Don Bosco's heart became a great tree. It is a gift for which we are grateful, but it asks all of us, the Rector Major, the Salesians, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, and you Salesian Cooperators and all the groups, for a great responsibility in animation and accompaniment," he said.
