Portugal – Meeting of the Salesians Responsible for Youth Ministry in Europe

14 February 2022

(ANS - Fatima) - About thirty people responsible for Youth Ministry in the Salesian Provinces of Europe met in Fatima, Portugal, from February 8 to 11. Convened by the General Councilor for Youth Ministry, Fr Miguel Angel García Morcuende, the meeting served to reflect on the work of the Provincial Delegates for Youth Ministry, and the participants were able to share best practices in this task.

On the occasion, the participants also analyzed how the documents on Youth Ministry and the Family and on the Parishes and Shrines entrusted to the Salesians in the various European Salesian Provinces are being welcomed, deepened and adopted on a practical level.

As part of the work, there were presentations on how to influence the pastoral formation of Salesian formators, how to carry out pastoral accompaniment during initial formation, and how to make the collaboration of the laity effective in pastoral formation and in the ongoing formation of communities. This part of the work was led by Fr Francisco Santos, a Salesian from the Congregation’s Formation Sector.

Also, the "Saint Anthony" Province of Portugal illustrated the preparations underway to welcome and support the participants of the Salesian centers at the next World Youth Day to be held in Lisbon in 2023.

Finally, the Salesian Youth Ministry Delegates from Europe reviewed the situation on upcoming international meetings for young people and pastoral agents in Salesian circles.

There were, as usual, also moments of shared spirituality and fraternity.
