Italy – Nothing through constraint, all through Love: "From the intuition of St. Francis of Sales to the challenges of post-modernity: evangelize and educate"

12 May 2022

(ANS - Palermo) - Evangelizing and educating is like saying heart and proclamation. These are the keywords of the seminar to be held Friday, 13 May, and Saturday, May 14, in Palermo, organized by the Don Bosco School "Villa Ranchibile" to celebrate the Fourth Centenary of the death of St. Francis de Sales. The thematic node of the seminar, "From the intuition of St. Francis de Sales to the challenges of post-modernity: evangelize and educate" has its foundation in the Saint's phrase, "Nothing through constraint, all through love," taken as the diamond of the insights from specialists, bishops, and students.

The reports scheduled for Friday afternoon, from 15.30 to 19.00, and those on Saturday, from 9.30 to 13.00, will examine the facets of this milestone.

The proceedings begin with the greetings of the Rector of the Don Bosco House, Fr Domenico Saraniti, followed by talks by the Archbishop of Monreale and Delegate for School of the Bishops' Conference of Sicily (CESI), Msgr. Michele Pennisi; the Provincial of the Salesians of Sicily, Fr Giovanni D'Andrea; and the Provincial Secretariat of the Sicilian Province of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Sr. Lucia Siragusa.

Four speeches will follow: by Professor Fr Andrea Bozzolo, Rector Magnificent of the Salesian Pontifical University; Prof. Giuseppe Gioia, professor at the University of Palermo; Sr. Maria Trigila, professor of Literature and of the "Don Bosco" Institute; and a student from the same school, Chiara Lanotte.

The next day the Archbishop of Palermo, Msgr. Corrado Lorefice, and Prof. Fra' Rosario Pistone, dean of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sicily, will kick off the proceedings. This will be followed by four in-depth talks by the Bishop of Acireale, Msgr. Antonino Raspanti, among other roles, the vice president of the Italian Bishops' Conference and CESI President; Prof. Fr Vito Impellizzeri, Rector of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sicily; Prof. Anna Staropoli, sociologist; and "Don Bosco" School student Tommaso Caserta.

The chorality of the various voices, from academia to school desks, is a strategic choice of the Salesian organizers because, today more than ever, witnessing the synodality of knowledge and generational confrontation is required, starting with vital topics such as education and evangelization, as a litmus test in this historical moment.
