(ANS - Bled) - Over the span of more than 15 years, the Bled Strategic Forum has become one of the main international conferences in central and south-eastern Europe, which brings together participants from different spheres and sectors of Europe and the world every year. This year, the 16th edition of the Forum, entitled "The future of Europe", took place on 1-2 September 2021 and, on the sidelines of the main event, on 31 August and 1 September the youth strategy forum took place (Young BSF). It was attended by Maja Žibert, past pupil of the Salesian school in Želimlje and head of the Development Office of “Fundacija Don Bosko”, of the Slovenian Province (SLO).

His viewpoint on the international event follows:

It was a unique opportunity for the exchange of opinions between many public decision-makers at the highest level, especially from the sector of government organizations, together with representatives of the Third Sector.

This edition of the Bled Forum, on the theme "The future of Europe", was special, also because Slovenia currently chairs the Council of the European Union and the topics of the debates were the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency.

The Strategic Youth Forum was a special meeting of about twenty young people from almost all the states of the European Union and from the Balkans, who prepared the "Declaration of the future of young people". In the sessions, panel discussions and debates, we touched on various important topics, from economic needs to the diversity of young people, and how today's economic and social changes affect all this.

We also addressed the issues of migration, youth work, climate change, ecological transition… On these issues, we, the young people must become and remain important sentinels and interlocutors for governments.

We emphasized the importance of digital transformation and social listening to individuals and groups, the protection of human rights and the responsibilities that as young people we have towards those who make decisions at all levels of society. All of this has been reported in the Declaration.

Even the Salesians and the 'Fundacija Don Bosko', with their activities, defend and promote the social involvement of all, especially young people at risk of social and educational marginalization, and are committed to an equitable and sustainable society, open to all.

The Bled Strategic Forum also met with the Vatican Secretary of State, Card. Pietro Parolin, who celebrated a Eucharist for Europe in the Slovenian national shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Brezje.

Our wish, not only for the young people of the European Union, but for those around the world, is that everyone can have the opportunity to express their opinions and can participate in designing a just and appropriate society for all.
